LOWER FLORIDA KEYS FLATS FISHING REPORT
Saturday, 21 August 2010

Another pretty morning in the Lower Florida Keys back country.....Took this photo on the way to our first spot... looks even better with rolling tarpon...

The weather for this week was warm and calm...

My anglers for this week prefered to target tarpon..  Which is fine with me, I am a tarpon junkie and conditions were right for tarpon fishing..  We started before dawn just about every day..  Flat calm, good tides, perfect conditions to find rolling juvenile tarpon...  A couple of mornings we did and a couple of mornings the tarpon did not get the memo..  (I did talk them into trying one bonefish flat... we found some nice tailing bonefish....  Also got shots at lost permit in tarpon spots too)

After the sun got higher we would switch to sight fishing for juvenile tarpon and full size tarpon..  We did find a couple of spots were 3 to 6 foot tarpon were feeding on schools of bait..  It was fun..  We  found and fed more big tarpon then I would have suspected this time of year.   If the got the fly in their zone... going away.. it would get slurped up!

Tips, Rants, Pics, News, Observations And Other Ramblings From The Florida Keys

This fall, I had the pleasure of fishing with Dan and Dan from Switzerland.. They got here for our first "cold front". Fishing was a little tougher then it could have been.. But we fed some tarpon, boated jacks, sharks and a very nice snook..

They did an excellent job fishing and filming.. Check out the video they made..

Tarpon fishing has been good.. Tested the Go Pro Hero Video Cam.. Mounted it to the poling platform.. It did a decent job of capturing the jumps with the wide angle lense..  Think it will make a good addition for taking video of anglers on my boat...  It can be difficult to film and pole..

Bonefishing has been good! This video has several random clips, shot while fishing with friends..

Mike and Rich made a video from our day on the water..  Mike boated a tarpon on fly and Rich got a big shark..  Fun day!
Boat Slam with Derrin and Bob..
Bonefish, Permit and Tarpon....
Steve brought his 12 year old grandson Jaxon down to the Keys for his first ever salt water fishing trip..  Might be his first but certainly not his last..  Jaxon had a blast sight fishing to sharks and barracudas.  First day, first shark was a 7 foot blacktip hooked in less then 3 foot of water..  It was fun..
Fished with my buddy Capt. Bo Sellers today..
Bo boated a permit on fly!

Giuliano and Massimo hooked up with tarpon every day.. baby tarpon and 6 footers.. Unfortunatly the big ones did not stay long enough to film..
But it was fun!
